Good Life Journal - John 9
John 9 Vs. 3 Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him."
Vs. 24 So for the second time they (the Pharisees) called the man who had been blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. ..."
Vs. 25 (the healed man said) "One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see".
Vs. 31 (the healed man also said) "We know that God does not listen to sinners ..."
Vs. 34 (the Pharisees) answered him, “You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they cast him out.
Vs. 35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?"
Vs. 38 He (the healed man) said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.
This is a powerful story.
The disciples want to know why the man is blind.
Jesus tells them so the glory of God would be seen.
Then the Pharisees want to know why the man can see.
The healed man knows only the most basic of facts.
First, he didn't see, but now he does see!
But the man does tell them Jesus "opened his eyes".
The Pharisees can't accept this explanation, and throw the man out.
Jesus approaches the rejected man, and confirms the "blindness" (& guilt) of the religious leaders.
What am I more drawn to? The people of Jesus or the study of Jesus?
What do I want more? To see people of God correctly or to answer questions about God correctly?
I can never prioritize theology over loving people!
If I prioritize theology over loving people, then I won't get either one right!
Bad theology does not keep Jesus from people.
I can't let it keep me from people, either.
This blind man said a plainly wrong statement about God: "God does not listen to sinners".
It did not keep Jesus away, though!
And this man worshipped Jesus even without fully understanding who He was.
He did know this, "I was blind, now I see".
Am I more tempted to act like the Pharisees, and "cast people out" for bad theology?
Or will I act like Jesus, who "heard about" the man and "found" the man?
I must never let people's "immature faith" or "wrong answers" keep me from seeing them and listening to them and loving them.
Thank you Father that your patient with me.
Help me see others and listen to others he way you do.
Remind me not to cast people out but to show them your love.
Help me Holy Spirit to see them.
In Jesus name.
